June is no time for complicated cooking

Hey Y'all!

(Scroll past for recipes if you are not interested in my news)

I have never been particularly talented at keeping exciting secrets. Important secrets? Sure. I can take those to the grave. Fun secrets? I start vibrating like a washing machine with an unbalanced load.

If you're part of the Restless Chipotle community, you probably saw the survey I posted last week asking what would make the blog more helpful and easier to use. Well, while we've been updating recipes and freshening things up around here, we've also been working on some new tools designed to make life in the kitchen a little less chaotic.

And the best part? They're free.

First up, you'll notice a new "Cook Step-by-Step" button in the recipe cards. Click it and you'll be able to move through recipes one step at a time, use voice controls, and even set timers without touching your phone with flour-covered fingers.

You can also ask Reva Mae questions about the recipe.

Yes. That Reva Mae. The same Reva Mae from Picklefork now has a job. Frankly, nobody is more surprised than I am.

She can help with substitutions, answer recipe questions, and guide you through the cooking process. She's still learning the ropes, so think of her as being in her first week on the job at Treadwell's Feed & Seed. Helpful? Usually. Perfect? Not yet.

You'll also see a "Build Grocery List" button.

This one is downright dangerous.

You can create meal plans from recipes on the site, automatically build grocery lists, print them, or send them straight to Instacart. No more discovering halfway through a recipe that you somehow forgot the one ingredient the entire dish revolves around.

But wait. There's more! This is like one of those late-night infomercials where the host keeps pulling gadgets out from under the table.

You'll also be able to save recipes, track what's in your pantry, and even get reminders when ingredients are nearing their expiration date. Future You is about to become significantly more organized than Present You ever intended.

Some features work without an account, but if you want access to everything, you'll need to create one.

It's completely free.

And if all of this sounds about as appealing as putting raisins in potato salad, that's okay too. You don't have to use any of it.

The recipes are still right where they've always been. Nothing is being taken away. These tools are simply there for anyone who wants a little extra help getting dinner on the table without turning meal planning into a part-time job.

We're still rolling things out and there will absolutely be a few glitches along the way. New technology is a lot like teaching a cat to fetch. Sometimes it works beautifully. Sometimes everyone involved has questions.

I'll be posting videos showing y'all how to use everything once it's all tinkered with.

But I'm excited about it, and I hope you will be, too. Let me know what you think!

just updated

No-bake German chocolate pie has all the flavor of the layer cake but with none of the arm-wrestling layers. It's quick, easy, and delicious. The chocolate filling is truffle no pudding... so it's extra rich and melt in your mouth creamy - like a chocolate truffle.

Sandwiches worth canceling plans for

Some sandwiches are lunch. These are events. The kind that drip down your wrist, require extra napkins, and make you stand at the kitchen counter because sitting down feels too formal. Whether you're feeding a crowd or just trying to survive another Tuesday, these recipes deliver big flavor without a lot of fuss.

Chicken Salad Sandwich
This chicken salad sandwich has been carrying Southern luncheons, baby showers, and ladies' card games on its back for decades. Creamy, flavorful, and piled high, it's proof that some recipes don't need improving. They just need a croissant.

Fried Shrimp Po' Boy
Crispy shrimp, crunchy toppings, and enough flavor to make you briefly consider relocating to Louisiana despite the humidity. One bite in and you're leaning over the sink to catch the drips, fully committed to the delicious chaos you've created.

Fried Chicken Po' Boy
Golden, crunchy chicken tucked into a fluffy roll and dressed to impress. It has the energy of a recipe that starts as lunch and ends with you staring out the window, wondering why all sandwiches can't be this dramatic.

Tuna Salad
Simple, dependable, and wildly underrated, this is not your mom's tuna salad. This update on an old-school favorite has been quietly carrying weekday lunches on its back for generations while trendier recipes chase attention on social media.

Slow Cooker Brisket Sliders
Tender, juicy brisket that practically collapses when you look at it too hard, tucked into soft little rolls that disappear at alarming speed. Make a tray for the party if you must, but maybe hide a few for yourself. Purely for quality control, of course.

Cookies and questionable self-control

A fresh batch of cookies has a way of turning sensible adults into not-so-tiny dessert goblins. Crispy, chewy, chocolatey, buttery, or piled high with frosting, these sweet little troublemakers disappear faster than leftovers at a church potluck. Consider this your official warning. 🍪✨

Chai Snickerdoodles
These cookies taste like autumn showed up early and brought a suitcase full of warm spices. Soft, chewy, and rolled in cinnamon sugar, they're the kind of treat that makes fancy coffee shop pastries seem a little overdressed.

Butter Pecan Toffee Cookies
Buttery, nutty, and packed with sweet bits of toffee, these cookies have serious "hide a few for later" energy. Rich enough for the holidays but easy enough for a random Tuesday when life has been particularly life-ing. SO good with a cup of coffee.

Oreo Chocolate Chip Cookies
As if chocolate chip cookies looked at Oreos and thought, "We should join forces." Every bite is loaded with chocolate, cookie chunks, and enough sweet chaos to make the cookie jar noticeably lighter by bedtime.

Raspberry Thumbprint Cookies
A tender, buttery cookie wrapped around a jewel-bright center of raspberry goodness. They look fancy enough for a holiday tray but are secretly as easygoing as a small-town beauty queen who keeps her crown in a kitchen drawer in case of emergencies.

Chewy Bakery-Style Sugar Cookies
Soft in the middle, lightly crisp around the edges, and big enough to make a statement. These are the sugar cookies that remind you why some classics have survived every food trend the internet has thrown at them.
